What They’re Saying About the Tools for the Future Tour

You’ve heard of the saying “keeping up with the Joneses?" A twist of that with a rural flavor is keeping up with ag technology. That’s a big reason why Daryl Drake, Brookville, Indiana, attended Successful Farming’s Tools of the Future tour at West Lafayette, Indiana.

“You have to stay up on ag technology and see what’s coming,” he says. “Even if you are on the right track, you can get run over if you just sit there.”

Dan Folkes, Elkhart, Illinois, attended the tour at Bloomington, Illinois. Google Glass is one tech topic he’s interested in, as he hopes it can help him with crop scouting.

“A lot of times, you will find something in a field and wonder, “what is that?” he says.

By the time you find out what the pest is in order to select the proper treatment, a week or two can pass. That can dash hopes of nipping it in the bud. “It would be nice to know what it is now,” he says.
