Dawn Equipment Puts Precision Planting, Ag Leader On Notice

By serving notice to Precision Planting and Ag Leader Technology, Illinois-based Dawn Equipment Company says it is defending its hydraulic down-pressure control technology.

In the past, the company believed taking such an action would not be necessary. However, it now feels compelled to defend its patents.

The notification from Dawn comes on the heels of John Deere’s announcement to partner with Ag Leader to allow the Iowa-based precision farming manufacturer to license and develop Precision Planting’s suite of planter systems. However, the agreement is contingent upon Deere’s acquisition of Precision Planting, which is currently being challenged in federal court.

The release also states that Dawn plans to bring to market several fundamentally new products this winter and would prefer to focus its efforts on driving forward product design rather than be distracted by “anti-innovation” forces. Their hope is that Precision Planting and Ag Leader will be open to rational negotiations so Dawn can turn its attention back to continuing to develop innovations that will advance agriculture.
