Ram Introduces New Harvest Edition Pickups
Ram trucks, once part of the Dodge brand, have long held a place on North American farms – particularly since the introduction of Hemi and Cummins turbo-diesel engines. However, Ram has raised the stakes on its 2018 models with a new line of Harvest Edition pickups designed specifically for American farmers.
In the meantime, Ram continues to expand its Ram Certified Agriculture Dealership program, which equips dealers to address the needs of farmers and ranchers in their local communities with special offers and services.
According to Mike Manley, head of Jeep & Ram Brands – FCA Global, the Harvest Edition will be available across the Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 lineups, in all four-door Quad, Crew, and Mega Cab configurations, all box lengths, and all powertrains, including 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, and 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel. However, many new features added for the agricultural market are only available on the Harvest Edition. They include two new color options: Case IH Red and New Holland Blue.
“The Ram Harvest Edition marks the first time that any pickup dealers will be able to stock trucks that exactly match the colors of two of the most popular lines of farm equipment in the nation,” says Manley, explaining that the option came about through the common ancestry of CNH Industrial and Fiat Chrysler.
Designed for Farmwork
As Manley explains, Harvest Edition trucks are loaded with features that are designed for farmwork. Among them is a ride-height increase of 1 inch, for 9 inches of ground clearance with the standard on/off-road tires on all Ram 1500 Harvest Edition models. Also included in the farm-life essentials are black tubular side steps, a durable spray-in bedliner, fold-out bumper step, mud flaps, and rubber floor mats. Skid plates and tow hooks are also included on 4×4. Heated seats are optional. Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 models also come with on/off-road tires and add a cargo-view camera.
“Because Ram knows farmers are tech-savvy, the Harvest Edition also comes standard with an 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen radio with navigation, 4G Wifi, Apple Car Play, and Android Auto,” he adds. “This gives buyers seamless connectivity, fingertip access to smartphone map mirroring, and up-to-the minute weather maps and forecasts customizable to any location in the nation.”
Exterior features include a chrome Wave Mesh cross-hair grille, bright front and rear bumpers, 17-inch chrome wheels (1500 models, 18-inch polished aluminum on Heavy Duty models), chrome mirrors, chrome door handles, and chrome-tipped dual exhausts (V-8 1500 models). In addition to Case IH Red and New Holland Blue, Harvest Edition Ram trucks are available in Bright White and Brilliant Black monotone and two-tone with Bright Silver color scheme.
Ram 1500 Harvest Edition MSRP starts at $39,910, plus $1,395 destination charge. Ram Heavy Duty models start at $46,235. Although the Harvest Edition was just unveiled at the Farm Progress Show this past August, it is already available at Ram dealerships.
