Dodge announced today that they are planning to offer a V-6 diesel in their 1500 Rams starting with 2014 models. These trucks will be first made available next fall.
This moves puts Dodge alone in the pickup market as the only auto maker to offer a diesel in a ½-ton truck.
The engine to be used in the future Ram 1500 is tabbed the EcoDiesel. It will be teamed up with Dodge’s TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission. This powertrain combination is predicted by Dodge to provide best-in-class fuel efficiency and torque .
The diesel is manufacturered for dodge of VM Motori, which has been supplying diesel engines to Chrysler Group since 1992.
“Truck owners have been emphatically asking for it, and Ram will be the only manufacturer to offer a diesel powertrain in the half-ton segment with the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO.
