Easy engine repair

When Kenny Peters, Greensburg, Indiana, was in the market for an engine stand, the choices were outside of his budget. To solve the problem, he put his talents as a metal fabricator to work and designed an engine stand specifically for medium- to large-size tractor engines.

“The Twister is similar to other engine stands, but it costs much less,” says Peters.

Rated at 3,000 pounds, the device comes with a standard bottle jack, a 60:1 gearbox, and a hand-operated crank. A pivot pin on the back allows the engine to be raised up at an angle.

“With a 60:1 gearbox, there is no need for a lock to keep the engine in place,” he says.

The stand is portable and has steel wheels for easy mobility. The dolly can be removed by pulling back on the handle, which allows the stand to become a stationary unit when torquing an engine.

If you have a color preference, Peters says a stand can be painted to match your equipment or shop area.

The unit sells for $1,995 (plus shipping and handling) and includes one engine adapter. Other engine adapters (e.g., John Deere, IH, or 5.9 Cummins) are available at an additional cost.

“This is an economical way for farmers to have their own engine stand. It can also be adapted to hold transmissions and differential housings,” he adds.
