SpeedTube and Multi-Hybrid Planting Now Available

08/27/2014 @ 3:07pm

Precision Planting’s SpeedTube and multi-hybrid planting systems, introduced as concepts earlier this year, will be available for 2015 spring planting.

SpeedTube
SpeedTube is a retrofit seed delivery system that allows you to plant corn and soybeans two times faster than with traditional seed tubes. With a seed tube, speed is limited because of poor spacing that results from increased speeds.

The system achieves seed placement accuracy at higher speeds by controlling the seed from the meter disk to the furrow. Feeder wheels at the top grab the seed from the disk and put it into a flighted belt that caries it to the bottom of the trench. The SpeedTube belt spins at a rate that increases and decreases with planter speed.

“SpeedTube increases yield and productivity by allowing you to take control of seed spacing at today’s planting speeds and removes the barrier to high plating speeds when you need it,” says Jason Stoller, Precision Planting. SpeedTube will be available on select John Deere and Kinze planters.

Multi-Hybrid Planting System
Traditionally growers have had to maximize yield by planting a hybrid that will perform the best on average across an entire field, despite zone differences. With the new vSet Select system, you can plant two hybrids in the same row, switching back and forth as zones change. This will allow you to plant the hybrid that will produce the most in each environment.

“The vSet Select system means that you don’t have to compromise,” says Dale Koch, Precision Planting. “You can plant the right hybrid for changing yield environments.”

Two opposing vSet meters are set on each row unit above a single seed tube. The vDrive electric drive system switches from one hybrid to the other when you need it to. The system uses prescription files that are loaded into the 20/20 SeedSense or you can switch manually.

vSet can be retrofit on select John Deere and Kinze bulk fill planters for 2015.
