This month at the Hybrid Truck Users Forum National Meeting in San Diego, California, Peterbilt will display the Class 7 Model 335, which is an hybrid-electric medium duty truck. The meeting takes place from November 14 through 16, 2006.
The hybrid is powered by the PACCAR PX-6 engine, which is compliant with the EPA emissions standards that go into effect as of January 1, 2007. The truck uses a parallel hybrid system that has an electric motor that assists the mechanical diesel engine with supplemental torque for improved fuel economy. In addition, the system stores energy during stopping through a process called regenerative braking and reuses it for acceleration. It also stores energy when idling and powers the PTO.
