South America Crop Watch tour

Crop consultant Laura Karlen is traveling throughout South America, reporting on crop conditions and other news. She'll be checking in from the following locations:

January 23-31: Caracas
February 1: Buenos Aires to Montevideo via Buquebus
February 7-9: Montevideo to Sao Paulo to Florianopolis
February 9-13: Florianopolis to Cuiaba, Mato Grosso
February 13-17: Cuiaba to Brasilia to Bahia area
February 17-25: Uruguay, including Montevideo
February 25-March 2: Uruguay to Santa Fe, Argentina
March 2-7: Argentina
March 7-10: Porto Alegre, Brazil

Laura Karlen, a crop consultant from Algona, Iowa, is traveling through major soybean-growing regions of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay, as a special correspondent for Agriculture Online. She will provide weekly crop condition progress reports from the road.

Karlen spent time last year in Argentina and Uruguay studying Asian soybean rust. She has also worked with Dr. Michael McNeill, an Iowa agronomist, to set up state labs to diagnose farmers' soybean samples for diseases.
