Christmas 2006
This Christmas as you sit in church or belly up to a table full of food and relatives, supposedly remembering that all this joy and bounty is in honor of a baby born long ago and far away, spare a moment or two to think about all the babies who are laying beside dusty roads, in countries full of strife and terror.

My farmer's heart has cried over the years, but more often than not it has laughed, danced and gloried in hard work and accomplishment, knowing that because I got up in the morning and put those battered boots on, there would be people going to bed with full stomachs and better lives.

The Christmas Cat
It's easy to think that nowadays, when we are being carpet bombed by "Christmas sale!" ads and with news of Wall Street fund managers giving themselves jillion-dollar Christmas bonuses. Such things make it tough to recall that this holiday, occurring during a season when the ground is frozen hard as an anvil, began with a humble birth in a humble place.
