Top Shop Tips: Welding Aluminum
Dave learns how to weld aluminum from Lincoln Electric welding instructor Karl Hoes. From Machinery Show 713such high thermal conductivity. You put the heat to it it's a super highway for heat. Aluminum conducts the away. But then ask -- -- gets saturated with -- it changes in the behaves differently so it takes a little getting used to. Karl you mentioned the oxides that build up from the welding that are in the weld itself. What are we talking about their focus really on the aluminum itself aluminum reacts instantly with the air that we breathe. The oxygen in the air combines with the aluminum and it forms a chemical compound on the surface of the aluminum it's called aluminum oxide . In a little relax as would grinding wheels are made out in -- paper you know every -- you see its aluminum accents are very abrasive. Very hard material -- 3700 degrees it melts a thousand degrees hotter that steel. It's a second hardest material known to man as far as a natural occurring material next to diamonds. So here -- this disparity right you have aluminum which has a lower melting temperature -- the steel and aluminum oxide that has a higher melting temperatures. Where that's the challenges that on the backside is actually a form of rocks but it's a tightly and hearing -- and once that surface rust on the aluminum doesn't prosper and that's why don't have to paint aluminum sometimes. Oh that's the kind of hazy it when you first get sent -- -- that shiny bit -- while that out of coming over time that oxide layer grows thicker the problem backside is aluminum oxide actually absorbs things into it. And hydrogen from the air and moisture humidity over time gets you into that oxide and even
All Around the Farm: Mega Manure Spreader
This farmer designed and built spreader includes several features that improve upon existing models. From show #711.I would say going to make a manure spreader. We're a beef cattle feed lot operation and we spread primarily driving or it's one of our major sources of fertilizer so we wanted to. Accurate it's. Good job done on the way it's done. It's basically built from scratch you Hershey buy components that tracked undercarriage we bought from land lover the beaters we fabricated the box we fabricated. They hit Charlie Sheen is often eject seventeen dirt straight -- by doing this we were able to move where they -- point is 45 inches forward to get the weight more standard. Under the axle as opposed to back on the draw the one of the major differences between this spreader and one -- by commercially. Is has its own engine on it which drives the beaters I. -- likely this got a 466 diesel on it that drives them for section hydraulic pump . Each section -- one of the beaters in the back unlike a lot of others brokers and have a need for change it pushes the manure off with big hydraulic cylinder. The cylinder is regulated its feet -- last -- control operate them for fifty so the faster you go in the field. The faster it tries to push from manure off and of course he's slowed down the feed rate slows down. Would -- with the idea I guess because we want to something bigger and able to spread more accurately. The
