Read the first issue of Successful Farming magazine

It has been 120 years since E.T. Meredith published the inaugural issue of Successful Farming magazine in October 1902. In that first issue, he devoted the publication to, "agriculture, horticulture, livestock, the dairy, poultry, and the home."

He wrote, "Herewith we present our readers with the first copy of Successful Farming. There is plenty of room for a live, up-to-date farm paper whose object is the discussion of farm matters employed in making farming a success. We intend to live up to the title of our paper by sending to our readers each month such information as will be helpful to them in carrying on the many duties on the farm and about the home. We want to get as close as possible to our successful farmers and those who are not, thereby extending a helping hand along the line."

To celebrate our 120th anniversary, we are pleased to share the original October 1902 issue of Successful Farming magazine with our readers. Read the articles, browse the ads, and see what has changed about agriculture since then, and what remains the same.
