Agronomy Tip: Tire Design and Compaction in Fields

Tire design is a key consideration for managing traction and ultimately soil compaction in the fields.

Brad Harris, Manager of Global Agricultural Field Engineering at Firestone Ag, says, “If you have a high traction tire, you should have a lower bar angle like a 23-degree because that's going to give you the most traction in the field versus a higher bar angle. A higher bar angle, like a 45-degree, could have higher slip rates, which leads to burning fuel and wasting money.”
