I"m a born and raised farm girl and now I talk turkey (and chicken) as the Communications Director for the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association, Chicken and Egg Association of Minnesota and the Midwest Poultry Federation.

Women in Ag: Small Town Love

It’s Valentine’s Day and my hubby and I are celebrating with a very low-key Sunday and Dairy Queen Blizzards—our favorite ice cream treat. Our Dairy Queen closes for a few months in the winter and then reopens, usually in time for Valentine’s Day, so we were pretty excited to have our ice cream back!

Women in Ag: Good Eggs

My last post here (which was way too long ago, I know) was all about the basic nutrition of eggs. I’m going to follow this up with a bit more information on what egg farmers have been doing to significantly decrease their environmental footprint over the past 50 years.

Women in Ag: The Basics of Egg Nutrition

I’m switching gears just a little with this blog post to talk a bit about eggs. With so many egg choices in the supermarket, it can feel challenging to pick the right eggs for your family.
I’m here to tell you that whatever eggs you pick, you’re getting an excellent source of protein and other nutrients. You really can’t go wrong, and a simple comparison of two egg brands will show you that an egg really is an egg. Check this out:

Women in Ag: Keeping the Holidays Happy

I am pretty sure I say this every year, but I seriously can’t believe Christmas is in less than two weeks! How did that happen?
The first half of December has been busy, which is typical for most of us, I think. I’ve really been trying to find a way to slow down and not let the stress of getting ready for the holiday get in the way of appreciating this time of year with my family.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m probably not at 100% stress-free yet, but I do have a few tips that have helped me keep my holiday spirit intact.

Women in Ag: Tips for Thanksgiving Week

Welcome to Thanksgiving week!

Turkey farmers everywhere celebrate this very American holiday, of course, but this year in Minnesota – after dealing with a devastating outbreak of avian flu last spring – our farmers are especially thankful for all of the support and outpouring of concern they have received from the general public.

Women in Ag: Fall Recipe Roundup - Turkey a la King (a Family Favorite!)

I'm excited to say that this week, the Women in Ag Fall Recipe Roundup features turkey, which is for a whole lot more than Thanksgiving! (Although we love our centerpiece of the holiday table, too.)

It's almost October, and my palate is suddenly craving hardy recipes and comfort food. My mom's Turkey a la King recipe fits this bill just about perfectly. I learned how to make this recipe in Mom's kitchen when I was a little girl, and I still love making it for my own family.
