Agronomy Tip: Create a Crop Plan
Paul Kassel, Field Agronomist with Iowa State University Extension, recommends keeping a record of your management decisions each year; everything from tillage practices, fertilizer use, and seed selection, to herbicide, insecticide, and fungicide applications.
A field-by-field plan can help you identify issues or answer questions in the future.
Kassel explains, “One year we had hailed out soybeans and had soybean grain on that ground that had a nitrogen contribution, but some farmers hadn’t thought about that implication. With things like soybean cyst nematode or sudden death syndrome, if it’s been two seasons since you’ve thought about soybeans in a particular field, it’s important to review and double-check what has happened there in the past.”
