Agronomy Tip: Don’t Overlook the Need for Fertilizer
During a busy spring, it can be easy to overlook the need for fertilizer. Taylor Purucker, Crop Nutrition Lead at The Mosaic Company, says up to 60% of crop yield is dependent upon soil fertility.
“It’s important to test the soil, evaluate the nutrients needed, and supply those to the crop at the right time,” he says.
“Often times during the growing season, near pollination, it’s hot and dry. Supplying crop nutrition in the spring can help mitigate some of those environmental stresses,” Purucker explains. “With a strong root system and more above-ground biomass, the crop is better set up for success.”
