31,000 seeds/A. Agronomic Optimum Final Population

This seven-year evaluation compares multiple hybrids in various row spacings at final populations ranging from 24,000 to 44,000 plants/A. to determine the optimum final population by row spacing.
Seven-year data suggests that economic optimum final populations for 20 in. rows as compared to 30 in. rows differ very little. As the agronomic optimum graph illustrates, the highest yields came from 33,000 population in 30 in. rows and 36,000 population in 20 in. rows. However, after seven years of testing, we have concluded that the economic optimum for 30 in. and 20 in. rows require a final population of about 31,000 plants/A. Adjust your planting populations based on your soil conditions and knowledge of your farm to determine how much you need to plant in order to arrive at adequate final populations.
