Agronomy Tip: Strategize Weed Control to Prepare for 2020

This fall, focus weed control on corn stalks that are intended for no-till soybean acres in 2020. Target specific weed species like marestail, henbit, chickweed, and other winter annuals.

Jason Haegele, Agronomy Manager for WinField United says, “Combinations of chemistries like glyphosate, 2,4-D and dicamba are often used in the fall due to the broad spectrum of weed control and relatively low cost. Residual chemistries like metribuzin can also be included to extend the length of weed control.”

If you tend to “clean till” fields prior to planting in the fall, then fall weed control may be less important.
