2 YR + 3 Rootworm Platforms = +$59.90 ROI of Soil Applied Insecticide
Two-year evaluation of three different rootworm platforms (Cry34Ab1/Cry35Ab1 + MiR604, MiR604, and eCry3.1Ab), and one hybrid with no rootworm gene in an attempt to determine if yield and profitability can be increased with the use of a soil applied insecticide. If so, what are the differences between trait platforms?
Rootworm Traits By Hybrid BECK 5852D2 brand contains the new Agrisure Duracade® rootworm event from Syngenta, not contained in any other hybrids in the test. (eCry3.1Ab)
Phoenix 5552A4** brand contains only one Agrisure® rootworm event, the same Agrisure event as is in XL 5939AMXT™* brand. (MiR604)
XL 5939AMXT™* brand contains both the Herculex® RW event from Dow AgroSciences and DuPont Pioneer stacked with Agrisure rootworm event from Syngenta. (Cry34Ab1/Cry35Ab1 + MiR604)
Phoenix 5552GT** brand does not contain a rootworm event.
A tremendous yield advantage of 37.1 Bu./A. is seen when adding Counter® 20G to Phoenix 5552GT** brand which contains no rootworm event. From this data we conclude that there is value in below-ground rootworm protection via traits or soil applied insecticide.
Beck's Hybrids PFR program conducts more than 75 different studies across multiple locations (500+ acres) to learn how different management practices and new technologies perform in field environments. Simply put, it is research focused with the farmer in mind.
