Agronomy Tip: Quality Tires Translate to Good In-Field Performance
Brad Harris, Manager of Global Agricultural Field Engineering at Firestone Ag shares one way quality tires result in savings on the farm.
“The first is tractive efficiency,” Harris says. “As we start doing field work, if a tire is worn out and we try to generate traction to pull an implement to the field, we're going to run a higher slip rate. That wastes time and fuel and we become less efficient because of it.”
Harris explains the tread depth and the bar angle of the tire is what provides traction. Good tread depth will help generate traction, minimizing slippage and wasted time.
