One-Handed Gate Closure

Standard mechanisms on farm gates are difficult to operate in the dark or when hunting. This simple and sturdy gate latch is made from a short piece of chain, a discarded horseshoe, and a short piece of garden hose (to protect the paint on the tubing). A short piece of chain is attached to one side of the horseshoe; the other is screwed or bolted to the gate post. Adjust the length of the chain so the horseshoe fits snugly around the tubing.
