A Smaller Can-Am Defender For Less

If you’re a Can-Am Defender fan, you should know about the new 2017 Defender HD5 side-by-side vehicle. Smaller in size and with a smaller price tag, the Defender HD5 can take on tough jobs or be used recreationally.

“The addition of the handy Defender HD5 packages helps us expand the Defender family lineup to meet market demand and also to grow the Can-Am footprint in the highly popular utility recreation segment of the industry,” says Marc-André Dubois, global marketing director for Can-Am Off-Road.

The Defender HD5 has a strong steel chassis, a double A-arm front suspension, a Torsional Trailing A-arm rear suspension, and twin-tube, gas-charged shocks make this vehicle sturdy and strong enough to tow up to 1,500 pounds and carry a payload of 1,200 pounds. The vehicle has 10 inches of front and rear travel and 10.5 inches of ground clearance.

A heavy-duty cargo box is ready for work with handy features like a LinQ quick-attach system, built-in anchors, tie-down points, and recesses for easy box separator solutions. It can also handle 600 pounds, can tilt, and has a tailgate.

The Defender HD5 is powered by a midsize engine – a calibrated Rotax HD5 engine – that is relatively low maintenance. There is no break-in service required. For up to a year, 1,865 miles, or 200 running hours, the engine needs no maintenance.

The vehicle’s standard transmission has engine braking, drive-belt protection, and a work-ready low range. A large fuel tank comes standard and can tote around 10.6 gallons of fuel.

You can haul two friends courtesy of the Defender HD5’s truck-inspired VERSA-PRO bench seat. When riders aren’t a factor, the bench seat can be flipped up for more cab space. An open-dash configuration and pushed-forward cab pillars also help to create cab space.

The Defender HD5 should be available in February 2017 for $9,999. You can choose between a base or DPS package when purchasing the side-by-side vehicle. Three colors will be available, as well as a water-dipped camo finish.

If you’re hoping to make the new ride a little more personal, Can-Am offers 160 accessories for customization.
