Hesston, Caterpillar Introduce New Products for Hay and Livestock Industry
Whether you cut it or feed it, equipment companies are releasing new machines that promise greater productivity for any dairy, beef operation, or commercial hay producer. One is the new WR9900 Series windrower from Hesston by Massey Ferguson. The other is a new Caterpillar wheel loader designed specifically for the ag industry.
Hesston WR9900 Series
More power is just one of the highlights on the four new Hesston by Massey Ferguson WR9900 series models. The WR9950 and WR9960 are equipped with the AGCO Power 4.9-liter four-cylinder diesel and are rated at 160 and 197 hp., respectively. The WR9970 and WR9980 are powered by the AGCO Power 7.4-liter six-cylinder diesel and are rated at 235 and 265 hp., respectively.
Not only does the extra power help in heavy harvesting conditions, but it also supports a new hydraulic system that delivers a 20% increase in available flow to the header.
“New, larger hydraulic motors on the 16-foot disk header deliver the power to the cutterbar and conditioner rolls from both sides of the header,” explains Shaun Allred, tactical marketing manager for hay and forage products at AGCO. “In addition, the hydraulic oil cooler is now larger to accommodate the increased hydraulic capacity.”
Allred says features to reduce fatigue and increase efficiency were a close second on operators’ wish list. Hence, the WR9900 series also includes AGCO’s new VisionCab that delivers more visibility, greater comfort, and a smoother ride.
“Overall, the cab has a 130 square feet of interior space, 77 total square inches of glass, and 33 square feet of glass in the curved windshield,” he adds. “The air conditioning system has 50% greater cooling capacity, and features like an air-ride cab suspension system are now standard.”
Allred says the engineers even added more control features, like the ability to adjust hydraulic roll pressure from the new 12.1-inch touch screen monitor in the cab, making the WR9900 Series the “complete package.”
AGCO lists the base MSRP for the 265-hp. Hesston by Massey Ferguson model 9980 windrower with a model MF9296, 16-foot disk header at $195,000. Actual pricing across the four available models will vary depending on the model, header, and how each is equipped.
Cat 930M Ag Handler
When it comes time to stack hay or feed forage, Caterpillar is making the job easier with the new 930M Ag Handler. According to Joel Grimes, global product expert for Cat, the newest of Cat’s full line of wheel loaders was built specifically for the agricultural market and features a 50-gallon-per-minute hydraulic flow rate, for 20% faster cycle times than the standard M series models. It also features a uniquely designed high lift arm that allows the machine to reach over the sides of a tall mixer wagon or stack bales higher than with standard lift arms.
“It also has a larger bucket capacity, offset by more counter weight on the rear, to carry ½ cubic yard more per pass,” Grimes says. “That means fewer trips to load a wagon and less time spent on the job.”
Other features on the 930M Ag Handler that were designed with the farmer, rancher, or dairy producer in mind include an auto reversing fan that reverses every 15 minutes or on demand to clear the radiator screen and a turbine air precleaner for the engine. The operator can also set auxiliary flow to optimize grapple or silage defacer speed and adjust wheel torque to match underfoot conditions. There’s even an ice mode for winter operation.
Options that will prove invaluable to a number of operators include a rear-detection system and an on-board payload scale that provides the operator with the individual load weight, as well as the cumulative weight that has been added to a feed wagon or a truck being loaded with bales.
