'One of a kind' tractors sell at auction

Compiling auction sale price data is a lot like those Easter egg hunts we used to go on as kids. You never really know what you’re going to find.

I’ve been at this gig of compiling auction sale price data since November 1989 -- a very long time. Doesn’t seem that long, though; guess I’m having too much fun. The true fun lies in never knowing what’s coming around the next bend . . . What sale prices will I discover tomorrow? How about the day after? Next week?

Easter baskets full of interesting auction sale prices on all types of equipment.

Take three rare tractors I found out about last week. Two of them sold at auction, a 1969 Oliver 2050 went for $16,500 on an east-central Ohio farm auction Thursday (March 28, 2013) and an English-made County “Super 6” 79-hp. diesel tractor sold for $5,400 Saturday (March 30, 2013) on a north-central Pennsylvania farm auction. Here are YouTube videos of each tractor selling at auction:

Both pretty rate tractor models to run across. But even more rare was the 1st Serial No. 1976  Model IHC 1086 I saw last week. Nope, didn’t sell at any auction. It’s owned by well-known International Harvester tractor collector Danny Anderson of Pine Island, Minnesota. Danny was kind enough to have me out for a look. Fascinating to hear the story on this iconic tractor as well as the “one-of-a-kind” IHC 5388. Yes, you read that right, an IHC 5388, that Danny put together. Here’s the YouTube video with the tale of Danny’s two rare IHC tractors:
