Iraq has bought 3.56 mln T domestic wheat since start of harvest

BAGHDAD, June 21 (Reuters) - Iraq's trade ministry has bought 3.56 million tonnes of domestic wheat since the start of the harvest on April 20, it said on Sunday.

The agriculture ministry has said it expects local production to reach 6 million tonnes in the April-May harvest.

Iraq, a major Middle East grain importer, said in March that it would need to import 1 million tonnes of wheat this year to boost reserves amid growing concerns that measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic would slow the food supply chain.
