Scientists see no reason to reduce Ukraine 2021 wheat crop

KYIV, April 5 (Reuters) - Ukrainian winter wheat crops are in good condition and scientists from the Ukrainian agrarian academy said this weekend they saw no reason that could cut the country's 2021 wheat harvest.

"There are currently no weighty reasons that can significantly limit the level of future yield of winter wheat and other winter crops," they said in a monthly report.

Ukraine has said it sowed 7.96 million hectares of winter crops, mostly winter wheat, to the 2021 harvest and plans to thresh at least 29.5 million tonnes of wheat this year.

State weather forecasters said last month around 98% of Ukrainian winter wheat crops and 100% of winter barley were in good condition.

In 2020, the country harvested 25.1 million tonnes of wheat. (Reporting by Pavel Polityuk; editing by Emelia Sithole-Matarise)
