Dairy Checkoff opens seeks applicants for tranquil dairy products

Do you have an idea for a dairy-based wellness product? Now’s your chance to make it come to life. 

The Dairy Management Inc. is searching for novel dairy products that are designed to improve the mental and emotional well-being of dairy cattle. Research shows consumers especially Gen Z shoppers, invest their dollars in products that support wellness or have soothing properties. 

The competition is open to all U.S. college and graduate students with an interest in dairy product innovation. Selected winners will have the opportunity to learn about the industry and consumer insights including, product formulation, packaging, pricing, and marketing a calming dairy-based product. 

Last year, the competition’s theme was focused on consumers who play video games. Utah State University students won the competition by creating Moba Boba, a carbonated pineapple flavored energy drink made with whey concentrate and 2%milk. The drink included coconut-flavored boba gummies to give the drink a fun texture.  

Applicants and their products will be judged by a panel of experts. The first place team will receive $8,000. Second place will be awarded $5,000 and $3,000 will go to third place.

Winning teams will also be recognized at the Institute of Food Technologists’ annual meeting in Chicago next July.
