Catch up on the National Sustainable Ag Coalition's farm bill platform, problems in Ukraine, and drought in South America in this Evening Edition.

Farm Bill Platform

The U.S. farm program directs billions of dollars a year to the largest and wealthiest farmers in America while struggling family farmers are often overlooked, said the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, an advocate for small farmers.

It called for farm bill reforms that would direct more funding to soil and water conservation and restrict subsidies to big operators.

Chuck Abbott reports on the NSAC's platform. Read the details in the article below.

South America Drought

Drought woes continue for portions of South America, especially in the major corn and soybean producing regions of Argentina, writes Krissy Klinger.

In the week-ending Nov. 19, showers did return to Argentina and Brazil, however, the heaviest rains tended to miss the important production regions of Argentina.

Check out the forecast for the week in the article linked below.

War in Ukraine

Iurii Mykhaylov, an agriculture journalist in Ukraine, writes about the Black Sea Grain Initiative and the continued problems in Ukraine.

"Regular shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities, primarily energy generating and distribution facilities, transformers, and power lines has led to a shortage of electricity throughout the country," Mykhaylov says.

Read about the corruption of grain exporters and how the 2022 harvest will be handled in Mykhalov's latest update.
