Shooting at Nebraska elevator leaves 3 dead
Three people are dead after a shooting at a Nebraska elevator early Thursday afternoon. Local authorities responded to an active shooter situation at the Agrex Elevator in Superior, Nebraska, shortly before 2 p.m.
Upon arrival, investigators located one deceased individual and multiple other victims. The reported shooter was also injured.
Preliminary investigations identified the shooter as Max Hoskinson, 61, of Superior. Hoskinson had been fired from Agrex earlier in the day, according to the Nuckolls County Sheriff Department.
Officials reported Hoskinson returned to Agrex with a handgun and opened fire, hitting three people. An employee then returned fire after retrieving a shotgun from an office, officials reported. Hoskinson was transported to the local hospital and pronounced deceased, according to official reports.
Sandra Nelson, 60, of Formoso, Kansas, was shot by Hoskinson and pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, Darin Koepke, 53, of Hadar, Nebraska, was transported by life-flight to Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln, where he was later pronounced dead. A third victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital in Superior and released Thursday afternoon.
Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts called the attack “shocking and devastating.”
“I thought that sort of thing only happened in other parts of the country,” said one resident.
In a statement Friday, Nebraska State Patrol said, “No charges are anticipated in relation to the employee who returned fire in protection of himself and other innocent parties present at the time of the incident.”
The names of other individuals involved in the incident are being withheld at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Additional information will be released when possible.
