Cool, Dry Week to Offset Weekend Showers

The northwestern Midwest received abundant precipitation over the holiday weekend. Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and northwestern Missouri saw the most rainfall, according to MDA Weather Services.

Additional rainfall in those areas today on top of the weekend showers may have lead to some flooded areas, slowing corn and soybean maturity. However, the forecast for drier weather for the rest of the week should prevent wet areas from worsening.

Rainfall in Illinois and Indiana over the next few days is expected to improve soil moisture in those areas and favor late soybean growth, according to Kyle Tapley, senior agriculture meteorologist for MDA Weather Services.

Most of the Midwest experienced high temperatures over the holiday weekend, but should see cooler temperatures the rest of the week.

“Cooler weather is expected this week, with temperatures falling below normal by the end of the week and the weekend,” says Tapley.
