Give FFA Day invites donors to give back

On February 24, FFA invites you to show your support for the organization with a donation to further the experiences of current members.

“Give FFA Day is one day of National FFA Week where we celebrate the spirit of service and philanthropy within the organization and invite former members, parents, supporters, and the agribusiness community to give back to the organization,” says Kimberly Coveney, Annual Fund Manager at the National FFA Foundation.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of National FFA Week (February 19 to 26), and the seventh year Give FFA Day has been a part of the celebration. In 2020, the organization had more donors than in the first five years combined.

“We concentrate more on donor participation than on a monetary goal,” says Coveney. “We want everyone to know that their gift matters, so we have a goal of reaching 1,500 donors.”

Donors are invited to support many areas of FFA. The organization’s leadership fund allows the most flexibility to support and invest in the students, chapters, and teachers in whatever it is they may have the greatest need for.

Many students enrolled in FFA do not have their own blue jackets, says Coveney. Less than 50% of members own personalized jackets and have to use chapter jackets during competitive events. Donors can “give the gift of blue” and contribute to the fund that helps students purchase personalized FFA jackets.

Supporters can designate their donations to any of the 52 state FFA organizations, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and their donations may be used to send members to state conventions, to the Washington Leadership Conference, or toward college scholarships for those members pursuing a degree in an ag-related field.

“We want to invite everyone, no matter the amount, to help us show in numbers the support FFA has out there,” says Coveney. “That’s why we stress the number of donors and not the dollars. We hope people will raise their hand with a $5 or $10 donation and say, ‘Yes, I’m an FFA supporter.’ ”

Donations are also matched by donors on a national level. Some of FFA’s matching donors are Carhartt, American Family Insurance, Bayer, and John Deere.
