Bob Morrison, University of Minnesota, and Two Others Killed in Czech Republic
Bob Morrison, 64, a professor in the Swine Group at the University of Minnesota, died in a traffic accident in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
Also killed were Deb Spronk, 60, of Pipestone, Minnesota, wife of swine veterinarian Gordon Spronk, and Pam Wetzell, 59, wife of Tom Wetzell, a professional services veterinarian with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica. The Wetzells are from Cleveland, Minnesota.
Morrison’s wife, Jeanie, 63, is in critical condition. Gordon Spronk and Tom Wetzell were treated at a local hospital and released.
The six Americans were traveling to the European College of Porcine Health Management conference in Prague, Czech Republic, when their rented SUV collided with a semi.
Tom Molitor, department chair of veterinary medicine at the U of Minnesota, worked with Morrison since 1980. “Bob just told us he’s having more fun with what he’s doing now than he has ever had in 30 years. He was excited about what he’s doing,” said Molitor.
